I recently read an article stating that the total numbers of deaths caused by conventional medicine is an astounding 783,936 per year (for 2001). It is now evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the US. By contrast, the number of deaths attributed to heart disease in 2001 was 699,697 and the number of deaths from cancer was 553, 251 for the same year.

Many of you probably do not find this all that surprising but I think that it is a sad statement about our society and what we consider important. A group of researchers meticulously reviewed the statistical evidence and titled their report “Death By Medicine.” This entire report may be read at www.lef.org if you are interested.

This report states that the number of people in US hospitals who have adverse drug reactions is now over 2.2 million per year. The number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed for viral infections annually is 20 million per year. Worse, the number of people unnecessarily hospitalized is 8.9 million per year and there are $7.5 million dollars worth of unnecessary surgeries performed.

I think what bothers me the most is that our government agencies spend our tax dollars to persecute and discredit natural medicine and healthy lifestyles. I would like to think that our government was there to look out for us and our best interest. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. The FDA is constantly persecuting companies who offer natural products that compete with the pharmaceutical industry and want to restrict the use of and availability of supplements and natural therapies while promoting dangerous drugs. And they do this while ignoring all of the published statistics and reports showing that modern medicine is the real hazard to our health.

It has been apparent to me for many years that our health care system is failing us miserably. I keep seeing more people who are sick and tired and they keep coming in at younger and younger ages. Folks, what we’re doing just isn’t working any more and to keep doing it day after day while expecting to achieve improved results is insane!

The Wellness Revolution

In his great book “The Wellness Revolution” Paul Z. Pilzer explained it this way. Approximately one-seventh of the U.S. economy (about $1.5 trillion) is devoted to what is erroneously called the “healthcare” business. Healthcare is a misnomer, as this one-seventh of the economy is really devoted to the sickness business—defined in the dictionary as “ill health, illness, a disordered, weakened, or unsound condition, or a specific disease.”

Pilzer goes on to say that the sickness business is reactive. Despite its enormous size, people become customers only when they are stricken and react to a specific condition or ailment. No one really wants to be a customer.

In the next ten years, an additional $1 trillion of the U.S. economy will be devoted to the yet-unnamed wellness business—defined in the dictionary as “the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal.” The wellness business is proactive. People voluntarily become customers to feel healthier, to reduce the effects of aging, and to avoid becoming customers of the sickness business. Everyone wants to be a customer of this earlier-stage approach to health.

Being healthy is confusing to many people

Our current health care system is a joke as I pointed out earlier. It’s not working and it’s time that we admitted that to ourselves. Now I realize that I’m preaching to the choir here but let’s really take a serious look at what we have to do as individuals to take charge of our own health. Otherwise we’ll get sucked into the clutches of the current sickness system and we’ll lose our health and our wealth in the process.

Let’s apply some common sense to this process by comparing it to something that we all understand. Imagine that you just purchased the car of your dreams. This is the automobile that you’ve always wanted and it’s brand new and you are driving it away from the dealership.

Your new car is low on fuel so your first stop is the gas station. You are going to select the grade and quality of fuel for your new car that helps it perform at its best. You wouldn’t dream of putting in watered down fuel or an inferior grade of fuel because you know that it would end up costing you more money in the long run.

When you have driven your new car 3,000 miles (or whatever the manufacturer tells you) you will then have the oil and oil filter changed so that the engine runs smoothly. Tire pressure is checked, air filter cleaned or replaced, and all other fluids and lubricants are checked and maintained as well. We know that by doing this our wonderful new car will perform better and longer.

And if you were driving your car down the road and a light in the dash came on indicating that something was not working properly I’m sure that you would get the car to a service technician to correct the problem as soon as you could. I’m quite certain that you would not put tape over the light or break the light out and ignore the problem that it is signaling.

Why is it that we don’t even consider taking as good of care of this marvelous billion dollar machine called a body that we were entrusted with as we do our car?

I think the answer is that the car manufacturer has spent a lot of time and money to teach us what needs to be done to take care of the car. And past experience has proven that when we neglect to do these things it becomes extremely expensive and our pocketbook suffers. Repairs just keep getting more and more expensive so it is much better to maintain our vehicles rather than let them get to a state where they need vast amounts of expensive repair all at once.

We have not been educated to think that way about our bodies yet it is exactly the same idea. These billion dollar machines will take an amazing amount of abuse physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually before they start causing us severe problems so it is often years later when the abuse we give them begins to show up in the way of symptoms that really get our attention. Until then we usually just ignore the warning lights!

Our bodies are really energy. If you hold your hand under a powerful microscope you will see that there is space between the cells and fluids and that it is basically all vibrations. Our thoughts (positive or negative) have an impact on our health just as does the foods we eat. Positive thoughts produce high energy while negative ones result in low energy.

Fresh vegetables have a high vibration while many cooked foods and animal proteins have very low vibrations. Many of the “prepared” foods that we eat like candy and “junk foods” have little if any energy at all. When they have no energy it’s difficult for them to provide any energy to the body.

Our bodies need high quality fuel just as does our car. We need vitamins and minerals, proteins (amino acids), Essential Fatty Acids, fiber, micro-nutrients along with water, air, sunshine, love and acceptance to be healthy.

But many of the foods we eat are so deficient in these needed nutrients that our bodies suffer. Even reading the labels on things do not indicate a true level of what they contain. It’s much easier to look at the octane level on the gas pump and know that you are getting the right fuel for your car than it is to know that the fuel you are giving your body is going to meet its needs.

What if I don’t have time to eat right?

I’m sure that many of you find yourselves in the same position that I do with too much to do and not enough time to do it in so we skip lunch or grab a quick meal and keep going. I admit that eating those 5 to 7 servings of fruits and vegetables each day can be tough on busy days. But I don’t worry about that any more because I now use the Alkalize To Energize program that has worked for me and many of you for the past 3 years!

One of the best ways to monitor how you are doing is to check your pH levels. Measuring the saliva and urine will show you just how well you are doing at maintaining your health and keeping your body on the right track. The pH scale is a logarithmic (each number is 10 times more or 10 times less than the one next to it) and goes from 1 to 14. 7 is considered neutral or base and most of us want to be between 6.8 and 7.2 which is where health is optimal.

How can I check my pH to see if I’m acidic?

The best way to check your pH is to test your urine and saliva (with pHydrion paper ranging from 5.5 to 8.0 pH by 2 tenths) when you first get up in the morning. Buckwheat Groats – the Superfood

In his great book, “The Perricone Promise, Look Younger, Live Longer in Three Easy Steps” Nicholas Perricone, MD says that one of the best foods is the seed of a broad-leafed plant related to the rhubarb called buckwheat. While it is not a true grain it is used like one in cooking and it surpasses rice, wheat and corn on almost every measure of healthfulness. While these grains are high on the glycemic scale buckwheat is low, thus helping maintain blood sugar levels and keeping those excess pounds off.

Buckwheat also contains the amino acids that most grains are deficient in. And it is gluten free! Alkalizing Successes

A few years ago, I was diagnosed as insulin resistant after years of non-stop, inexplicable weight gain. At my own request, I was

prescribed Glucophage in desperation to lose weight. I also had been on antidepressants for about five years since the birth of my son.

Weight Loss & Energy Ideas

Spring is the time of year when many of us are looking to shed a few pounds and find more energy. And everyone has an idea on how to accomplish that which makes it very confusing for most of us. In fact, Americans spend over 1 million dollars every day on weight loss programs and the experts tell us that 95% of these do not work! Everyone that has truly followed this program has experienced good results.

First start out with the Alkalize To Energize basic program of 1 ounce of pure water for every pound that you weigh every day. (I know, many of you are screaming that would be impossible. But I promise you that when you do this you will get the results you want.) In every 32 ounces of this water mix 1 scoop or more of SuperGreens and 16 drops of Prime pH (energizes the water).

Healthy fats include coconut oil, flaxseed oil, borage oil, avocado oil, sesame seed oil, fish oil, black currant oil, olive oil and evening primrose oil. These good fats are essential to good health and to weight loss. I recommend that you put at least ½ TBS of these good oils on your plate each meal.

A study at the Oregon Health Sciences University provided patients with a high cholesterol and triglycerides omega-3’s in the form of fish oil for four weeks—and their cholesterol dropped an average of 46 percent, and their triglycerides more than 75%! Omega 3 oils soak up most of the acid of any of the fats which helps them decrease your risk of heart attack by 65%. So eat the good fats!

So the diet part of this weight loss program is to drink 1 ounce of SuperGreen mixture for every pound that you weigh each day and eat ½ cup of buckwheat groats and at least ½ Tbs. of these good oils with each meal.

Exercise at a level conducive to your physical condition is a great way to enhance this program but the truth is I’ve watched a lot of people lose a tremendous amount of weight by simply changing their diets as I’ve explained.

Many of you will shake your heads and say this is too easy and that I should be taking more foods out of the diet. Let your body teach you what it wants and doesn’t want rather than trying to exercise so much will power!
