In the Alkalize and Energize program we’re constantly stressing the importance of water to our body. University of Utah researchers recently shed additional light on the subject of water and found that when it comes to water, more is better! At least 8 glasses per day not only prevented dehydration but increased resting metabolism.

In the study, subjects consumed from 4, 8 or 12 eight ounce glasses of water daily. On the fifth day before rising their hydration status was monitored and a computer measured how many calories they had burned in a resting state during the previous night. The groups who had drank 8 and 12 glasses of water daily were sufficiently hydrated, whereas those who had drank only 4 glasses showed definite signs of dehydration. Furthermore, the well-hydrated subjects not only reported better concentration and more energy but they had burned more calories at rest than the group who had drank only four glasses. The results were in line with previous U of U findings that calorie burning can decline by about 2 percent per day when people are dehydrated.
